SC indicts CEO ARY Salman Iqbal, Mubashir Luqman in contempt of court case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Monday indicted private TV channel ARY’s owner Salman Iqbal and anchorperson Mubashir Luqman in contempt of court case for maligning the judiciary in a TV programme. A three-member special bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal resumed hearing the contempt of court case against ARY TV Chief Executive Salman Iqbal and anchorperson Mubashir Luqman.

 The charge-sheet was read to the accused by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, who rejected the charges and pleaded innocence. The assured the court that they would file their replies to the charge-sheet within a week. It is pertinent to mention here that a five member larger bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Nasir ul Mulk on November 20, disposed of the Intra Court Appeal (ICA), filed by Salman Iqbal, ARY TV Chief Executive and Mubashir Luqman against their indictment in contempt of court case for maligning the judiciary in a TV programme. On September 9, 2014, the court had issued contempt of court notices to anchorperson Mubashir Luqman and CEO of the ARY TV channel for allegedly maligning the judges of the apex court in a programme broadcast on May 29, 2014
